Critical Thinking

Every Inspired Writing and Literature class teaches students to think critically. Gordon MacDonald, in his Christian classic Ordering Your Private World, perhaps stated best the need for training in thinking skills:

The mind must be trained to think, to analyze, to innovate....

The person who does not know how to think will be relentlessly shaped and influenced by the dominant culture around him or her. But the transformed person (presumably transformed by the Spirit of Christ) will be busy thinking, reflecting, and making independent conclusions about the meaning of life and reality.

Part of the mission of Inspired Writing and Literature is to provide parents a resource for equipping and inspiring their students to be thinkers: truth seekers who shape and influence the culture around them, rather than being shaped and influenced by it. We believe this is a skill, a mindset, and a heart that must be taught, and it is a primary objective of every class.
